    Description

A beautiful collectible set of four U.S. postage stamps issued in 1963 to honor John James Audubon, one of the first people to study and paint North American birds.
Audubon conducted the first bird-banding study and then set off to paint all the birds on the North American continent. His "Birds of America", a collection of 435 life sized engravings from his paintings features the "Columbia Jays" shown on these stamps.
These stamps have never been used and are as fresh as the day they were sold at the Post Office almost 60 years ago!  Suitable for framing, they would make a great gift to anyone who is a fan of Audubon's paintings or your favorite ornithologist!
See my other auctions for blocks of historical significance including a block dedicated to Audubon from the Famous American series of stamps!
All stamps are Mint Never Hinged.
